Assessing Social Worker – Kinship Team 
Devon County Council | Countywide Opportunities Available
Any Devon County Council office location considered
Up to £36 per hour DOE from October 2026
Temporary Contract | Hybrid Working

Are you an experienced Children’s Social Worker with a passion for kinship and permanence planning?

Devon County Council are looking for dedicated Assessing Social Workers to join their Kinship Assessment Team, supporting children and families across the county in achieving safe, stable and long-term outcomes.

This is a rewarding opportunity to join a vibrant and restorative service where children and families remain at the heart of everything they do. You’ll play a key role in completing high-quality kinship assessments for Court and Fostering Panels, while supporting carers through the temporary approval process with ongoing guidance, supervision and support.

The team are looking for practitioners who are confident completing robust, analytical assessments and who understand the importance of relationship-based practice when supporting extended families through what can often be an emotional and complex journey.

What you can expect in the role:
• Completing Kinship Assessments for Court and Fostering Panel
• Supporting connected carers through temporary approvals
• Working closely within multi-agency and court settings
• Championing restorative and relationship-based practice
• Contributing towards permanency planning for children and young people
• Flexible countywide working arrangements across Devon

This role would suit a practitioner who enjoys assessment work, thrives within collaborative teams and is passionate about achieving the best possible outcomes for children within their wider family networks.

To be considered, you will need:
• Social Work qualification and Social Work England registration
• Completion of ASYE
• Previous Children’s Social Care experience
• Experience working within court proceedings and multi-agency environments
• Knowledge of fostering regulations and kinship assessment processes
• Strong assessment, recording and planning skills
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
