Revalidation - Hoop's Helpful How To

Here at Hoop, our Nurses are the heart of where our business began.

We value each and every one of you for what you do. We have witnessed your challenges, took inspiration from how you looked into the eyes of fear and the unknown in the global pandemic and persevered to make sure vulnerable people received their care, often to your own detriment. The stresses you face on a daily basis really do compare to no others. From saving lives, to holding the hand of patients as they come to the end of theirs. It really can be emotionally taxing.

Revalidation can be seen as one of those life admin tasks that causes you additional stress, and it's very clear you have enough of this on your plate. Revalidation is something every nurse has to complete every 3 years, and speaking from experience, don't those years just go in a flash?!

So here at Hoop, we wanted to put everything in one place to help you manage your revalidation, because we know it's important to you but also we understand the reasons as to why nurses must revalidate.

In essence, what you need in order to revalidate is:

    1) Evidence of training
    • Include any training certificates of training that you have undertaken in the 3 years leading up to your revalidation date
    • Fill in the attached "CPD log" with details on this

    2) Evidence of your practice hours
    • Include any employers over the past 3 years and input the hours undertaken
    • Fill in the attached "Practice Log"

    3) 5 x pieces of feedback
    • A mix of verbal and written feedback must be submitted, so during your 3 years, make a note of anything from a patient/relative/colleague or employer
    • Fill in the attached "Practice Related Feedback Log" and input details on here

    4) 5 x written reflective accounts
    • Complete one attached "Reflective Account" form for each situation/topic you choose to reflect on
    • Use positive examples, but also identify areas that perhaps didn't go as planned and have the humility to review and reflect on what you would do differently next time

    5) 1 x Reflective discussion
    • This must take place with a colleague/peer who is also a registered nurse
    • You can use this as an opportunity to discuss the contents of your reflective accounts
    • This has to be a face to face discusssion

    What must you do next?

Arrange a revalidation session with one of the management team at Hoop Nursing & Healthcare. Come into the office, bring the attached "Confirmation Form" and we will sit with you, talk through your file, review all of the evidence you are have gathered, and if satisfied you have met all of the above, we will sign the form with you.

You will then need to log on to your account with the NMC, upload and submit your details and documents.

Remember, collect evidence throughout the 3 years, keep it all together in a folder and this will alleviate so much stress for you when the time comes to submit.
