Vale of Glamorgan Council

Join the Intake & Assessment service delivering an effective front-door service for children and families across the Vale.

The team is based at Gladstone Road, Barry (CF63 1NH), with hybrid working — 2-3 days office-based, including duty responsibilities on a rotational basis. Intake work in the Vale includes private law work.

About the role:

You'll provide an effective intake and assessment service — undertaking wellbeing assessments, supporting Section 47 safeguarding enquiries, and completing work associated with private law proceedings — ensuring children receive the right level of support to safeguard and promote their welfare.

  • Gather and analyse information from families and partner agencies to identify risks, needs and strengths
  • Undertake wellbeing assessments and make recommendations on support and intervention
  • Contribute to Section 47 enquiries where a child may be at risk of significant harm
  • Liaise with professionals and participate in multi-agency safeguarding processes
  • Complete safeguarding checks, information gathering and reports for private law proceedings
  • Ensure the voice and lived experience of the child are central to all assessments and decisions
  • Maintain accurate, timely case records, assessments and reports
  • Work in line with relevant legislation, statutory guidance, policies and procedures

What you'll bring:

  • Experience working with children, young people and families in a safeguarding setting
  • A strong strengths-based approach to collaborative practice
  • Knowledge of child protection, wellbeing assessments and Section 47 processes
  • Understanding of private law work relating to children and families
  • Strong assessment, analytical and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication, recording and report-writing abilities
  • Ability to work with partner agencies and manage a varied workload

Benefits of working for Hoop:

  • 20 years' experience in the social work market
  • A local specialist agency based in Cardiff, with roles across South Wales, West Wales and South West England
  • Exclusive roles and early access to new opportunities
  • A Welsh-speaking consultant available if you'd prefer to discuss your job search in Welsh
  • PAYE or Umbrella payroll options – whichever suits you best
  • Twice-weekly payroll
  • A dedicated consultant as your main point of contact, with wider team support when needed
  • We actively supply every Local Authority across South and West Wales, as well as clients across South West England
  • Earn £200 for every successful friend or colleague you refer
  • Wellbeing sessions and thoughtful extras, like birthday gifts
  • DBS and compliance support to keep the process smooth and straightforward

To apply for this role, you will need to hold:

  • A relevant Social Work Qualification
  • Registration with Social Care Wales
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the update service, or be happy to apply for a DBS
  • 3 years of referencing
  • Driving licence with access to a car

Given the nature of the role, only applications from individuals with a social work qualification and registration with either professional body – Social Care Wales / Social Work England – can be considered. Please only apply if you meet this criteria.
