Job Description

Social Worker – undertaking Mental Capacity Assessments
Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council – Disabled Children’s Service
Initial 3 month contract
20 Hours per Week (Part-Time Considered)

Hoop Social Work is currently recruiting for an experienced Social Worker to support a specialist Disabled Children’s Service within Rhondda Cynon Taf.

This is a focused, non-case holding position, ideal for a practitioner with strong experience in Mental Capacity Assessments and Court of Protection processes. The successful candidate will be secondarily allocated to young people aged 16 for the purpose of undertaking assessments and completing associated Court of Protection paperwork.

The hours are currently set at 20 per week, however there is flexibility and part-time arrangements will be considered.

About the Service

The Disabled Children’s Service supports children and young people with lifelong, permanent and substantial disabilities. The service consists of five specialist teams:

  • Enablement Team

  • 0–11 Team

  • 11+ Team

  • Eligibility Team

  • Occupational Therapy Team

This opportunity sits within the 11+ Team, which supports young people aged 11–18 as they move through key transitional milestones from Children’s to Adult Services.

The team focuses on:

  • Promoting independence

  • Managing complex physical and learning disabilities

  • Supporting young people with life-limiting conditions

  • Preparing for adulthood through detailed assessment and planning

As part of transition planning, the team works closely with Adult Services. This includes undertaking Mental Capacity Assessments and supporting applications to the Court of Protection where required.

The Role

  • Undertaking Mental Capacity Assessments for young people aged 16

  • Completing Court of Protection paperwork and associated documentation

  • Working in partnership with Adult Services during transition planning

  • Operating in a specialist, assessment-only capacity (non-case holding)

  • Producing high-quality, legally robust documentation

This is a great opportunity for a practitioner who enjoys focused, analytical work and is confident navigating the legal framework surrounding capacity and transition.

To Apply, You’ll Need:

  • Minimum 6 months’ UK experience as a registered Social Worker

  • A recognised Social Work qualification

  • Registration with Social Care Wales or Social Work England

  • Enhanced DBS (Update Service or willing to apply)

  • 3 years of referencing

  • Full driving licence and access to a car

⚠️ Due to the nature of the role, only applications from qualified Social Workers registered with Social Care Wales or Social Work England can be considered. No sponsorship available.
