3 month contract initially

Are you an experienced Social Work Assistant looking to join a well-established and genuinely supportive fostering team?

Cardiff Children’s Services are seeking a proactive and confident Social Work Assistant to join their Fostering Service on a full-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside experienced Social Workers, a Principal Social Worker and a supportive Service Manager within a service that values collaboration and professional development.

The Role

You will hold a caseload of foster carers, providing ongoing support and supervision to ensure high standards of care are maintained for children and young people.

This is a varied and rewarding role where you will:

  • Support and supervise allocated foster carers

  • Contribute to assessments and care planning

  • Work closely with multi-agency professionals

  • Review quality of care and promote person-centred, enabling plans

  • Undertake risk assessments and maintain accurate case recordings

  • Support the continued development of the fostering service

What We’re Looking For

We are keen to hear from candidates who bring:

  • Experience working with children and young people

  • Experience working within multi-agency settings

  • Skills in assessment, planning and risk management

  • Knowledge of relevant children’s legislation, including the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act and Fostering Regulations

  • An understanding of trauma-informed approaches (desirable)

  • Confidence working independently as well as within a team

  • Strong recording and organisational skills

A flexible and positive approach is essential as the service continues to develop and evolve.

This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting foster carers and improving outcomes for children in care - all within a well-structured and supportive local authority setting.

If you’re ready to step into a rewarding fostering role in Cardiff, we’d love to speak with you.
