Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council
£41.58 per hour (All Wales Pledge)
Initial 3-Month Contract
Full Time

Are you an experienced Social Worker ready to step into a leadership role within a specialist Disabled Children’s Service?

Hoop Social Work arecurrently recruiting for a Principal Social Worker to join Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Children with Disabilities Service, specifically within the 11+ Team — a service dedicated to supporting young people with lifelong, permanent and substantial disabilities as they move towards adulthood.

This is a meaningful, transition-focused role where your leadership, expertise and oversight will directly impact young people with complex physical needs, learning disabilities and life-limiting conditions.

About the Service

The Disabled Children’s Service is made up of five specialist teams:

  • Enablement Team

  • 0–11 Team

  • 11+ Team

  • Eligibility Team

  • Occupational Therapy Team

The 11+ Team supports young people aged 11–18 through key transitional milestones, focusing on:

  • Promoting independence

  • Managing complex and lifelong needs

  • Preparing for adulthood

  • Developing tailored Care & Support Plans

  • Working closely alongside Adult Services

Transition planning may involve undertaking Mental Capacity Assessments and supporting applications to the Court of Protection, so confidence in this area is highly desirable.

The Role

As Principal Social Worker, you will:

  • Provide senior-level oversight and practice leadership within the 11+ Team

  • Support complex assessments and care planning

  • Oversee transition planning into Adult Services

  • Guide practice in relation to Mental Capacity and Court of Protection processes

  • Ensure high-quality, strengths-based and legally compliant practice

  • Act as a source of expertise within a multi-disciplinary environment

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with complexity and wants to lead from the front within a highly specialist service.

To Apply, You’ll Need:

  • Minimum 6 months’ UK experience as a registered Social Worker

  • A recognised Social Work qualification

  • Registration with Social Care Wales or Social Work England

  • Enhanced DBS (Update Service or willing to apply)

  • 3 years of referencing

  • Full driving licence and access to a car

⚠️ Due to the nature of the role, only qualified Social Workers registered with Social Care Wales or Social Work England can be considered. No sponsorship available.
