Kinship Assessment Social Worker – Countywide

Devon County Council
37 hours per week
Office base anywhere in Devon considered
Up to £36 per hour (DoE)

Hoop Social Work are pleased to be supporting Devon County Council with the recruitment of an experienced Assessing Social Workers to join their Countywide Kinship Assessment Team.

This is a rewarding and specialist role within a supportive and forward-thinking service that places children and families at the heart of everything it does. You’ll play a vital part in delivering high-quality, robust assessments that support safe, permanent decision-making for children.

The role

As a Kinship Assessing Social Worker, you will:

  • Complete kinship assessments for both Court and Fostering Panels

  • Support carers through the temporary approval process, offering regular supervision and guidance

  • Produce clear, analytical, and timely assessments in line with regulatory and statutory requirements

  • Advocate for children and young people, ensuring their voices remain central throughout the assessment process

  • Champion restorative practice and contribute to a collaborative, reflective team culture

Working arrangements

  • 37 hours per week

  • Countywide role – office base within Devon considered

  • Flexibility around home working may be available and can be discussed at interview

  • You will be expected to manage allocations effectively and undertake visits as required to meet service needs

  • Valid UK driving licence and access to a car essential

Essential criteria

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration

  • Successful completion of ASYE

  • Experience within children’s social care, including court and multi-agency working

  • Knowledge and understanding of fostering regulations

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, models, and theories

  • Good recording, analysis, and planning skills

Rate of pay

Up to £36 per hour (depending on experience)
