Job Description

Higher Clerical Assistant (Reception) – Children’s Services
Cardiff Council – Hafan Gobaith Office (Office Based)
Full Time – 37 hours per week | Contract until mid-June
£13.47 per hour (PAYE) + holiday pay on top

Cardiff Council Children’s Services are looking for experienced administrative candidates to join their busy Business Support team on a full-time temporary contract until mid-June.

This role will be fully office-based at Hafan Gobaith and provides key reception and administrative support to several Children’s Services teams. Full induction and training will be provided.

The Role

As a Higher Clerical Assistant (Reception), you will support the Admin Team at Hafan Gobaith, providing reception and finance support to:

  • North and South Locality Social Work Teams (approximately 10 teams / 200 staff)

  • Personal Adviser Service

  • Unaccompanied Asylum Seeker Service

The building is open to the public, so the role requires a professional and welcoming approach when dealing with both members of the public and professionals.

Working Hours

Reception cover is required:

  • Monday – Thursday: 08:30am – 5:00pm

  • Friday: 08:30am – 4:30pm

(37 hours per week – office based)

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing reception duties, including answering phones and greeting visitors

  • Supporting the Front Door service for Children’s Services

  • Providing finance administration, including:

    -Recording petty cash spend

    • Processing invoices, BACS payments, and purchasing card transactions

     

  • Recording information on the Client Record System

  • Updating spreadsheets and administrative records

  • General clerical duties including post processing, scanning, and photocopying

  • Booking travel and hotel arrangements when required

Requirements

  • Previous office / administrative experience

  • Strong customer service and communication skills

  • Ability to work in a busy office environment

  • Good IT skills and attention to detail

  • Must be available to start immediately

🔒 Enhanced Children’s and Adults DBS is required for this role.
