Social Worker – Child Protection Team - Merthyr

£38.43 per hour (Umbrella – Pledge Rate)
 37 hours per week | Mon–Thu 8:30am–5:00pm | Fri 8:30am–4:30pm
Hybrid working – office based with up to 2 days remote working depending on the demands of the team each week
Initial 12-week contract

We are recruiting an experienced Social Worker to join a Child Protection Team in Merthyr, undertaking a range of statutory duties to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.

You will work in line with the Children Act 1989 and the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014, managing complex cases and contributing to positive outcomes for children and families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hold a caseload including:

    • Children in Need of Care and Support

    • Children subject to Child Protection Plans

    • Children Looked After

  • Complete proportionate assessments and Care and Support Plans in partnership with families and multi-agency professionals

  • Manage Part 4 Care and Support Plans for children subject to Child Protection processes

  • Prepare high-quality social work reports for Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences

  • Coordinate and chair Core Group meetings

  • Undertake statutory visits and escalate safeguarding concerns where plans are not effectively protecting the child

  • Contribute to and manage legal proceedings, including preparation of court reports

  • Undertake adoption work, including:

    • Completing adoption paperwork

    • Preparing information for Agency Decision Maker

    • Working collaboratively with Vale, Valleys and Cardiff Adoption Service to secure timely permanence for children

  • Participate in a planned duty rota (approximately two days per month)

  • Manage day-to-day organisation of your caseload in line with departmental and Cwm Taf Safeguarding Children policies

  • Engage in supervision, appraisal, team meetings and service development

To apply for this role, you will need to hold -

  • Proven experience within Child Protection
  • Strong Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and statutory responsibilities
  • Confident working in a fast paced high risk environment
  • Excellent assessment, reporting writing and multi agency working skills
  • A relevant Social Work Qualification
  • Registration with Social Care Wales / Social Work England
  • Enhanced DBS, registered on the update service or be happy to apply for a DBS
  • 3 Years of referencing
  • Driving license with access to a car
