Qualified Social Worker - Intake & Assessment

up to £40 per hour

4 Qualified Social Workers are required to join Cardiff Childrens Services' Intake and Assessment Team following additional funding. 1 post per intake team. The contract will initially run for a 6 month period but highly likely to be extended. This is an exciting time to join the Council, as it is an Authority on the implementation journey that uses the Signs of Safety approach to focus on the support of their children. Due to the demography of the authority the work is diverse and progressive, making it a fast paced and exciting team to be a part of. The pay rate for this role is very competitive at £40 per hour as an umbrella company.

Duties and responsibilities for this position include:

  • Undertaking wellbeing and Section 47 assessments
  • Providing short term interventions to support families to increase safety within the home
  • Caseholding for a short period of time (long term work is generally transferred at the first planning meeting)
  • Duty rota for one week in every three meaning you have the opportunity to plan and record your work in a structured and organised way
  • Care and private law proceedings

You will be working in an established team with experienced staff who support each other during challenging times. The authority works creatively under the Signs of Safety model for the best possible outcomes for families. Agency personnel are valued by the Council with training opportunities being available to everyone to ensure continued professional development.


  • Experience of assessments, care planning, person centered planning and care management skills
  • Ability to work professionally with all partners
  • Relevant social work qualification
  • Registration with the Social Care Wales
  • Car driver with access to a car and business insurance
  • Good team player
  • Excellent communication, organisation and IT skills
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service or happy to apply
  • 3 years of referencing undertaken
