How can Hoop Education help a newly qualified teacher?
Hang in there, you’re almost there! You’ll now be on your final placement and can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. We understand it’s been a stressful time completing your teacher training; now what options will you have as an NQT? Being an NQT can be daunting but there’s plenty of help available to help take your next step. As an NQT, you have 3 options. Firstly, you can find a permanent teaching role in a school. Secondly, gain a temporary position within a school and thirdly, but certainly not least, supply teaching. Not many Newly Qualified Teachers know this but you can also achieve all three of these routes through Hoop Education. This can be a sensible option as you can take advantage of our vast knowledge on local schools, contacts with head teachers and continuous support throughout. We can even offer support of improving your CV to get you noticed amongst the mass of CV’s the schools receive. We also offer CPD to all of our staff.
Thinking about doing supply teaching but have reservations?
All NQT’s leave training with concerns about supply teaching and are usually dubious about signing up with an agency. However, supply teaching is now a well-regarded and respected part of the industry due to the amount of experience you can gain from it. Hoop Education often get the following questions from NQT’s:
“What if I don’t receive enough work?”
If you choose to register with Hoop Education, you can get day to day work whilst you are waiting for interviews on a full time or permanent position. Here at Hoop Education, you will build a strong working relationship with your consultant who will help to find work tailored to yourself. Your chance of finding work through a teaching agency is greater as we have relationships in local schools and we know where the work is.
“I didn’t secure a permanent role, how can you help?”
Hoop Education allow you to be extremely flexible, we allow you to choose when and where you want to work. It’s free to register with Hoop and our consultants’ expertise and contacts can help you get a foot into the door of your desired school. This can lead to long term work and be offered a full time position within the school.
“What about completing my NQT year?”
Relax, we know all NQT’s are very eager to complete their induction year once completing their training. You can also complete your induction year via Hoop Education on supply. We often have positions that become available specifically for NQT’s beginning in September in order for our staff to complete their induction year. This can either be done over one full school year in the same school or spread over three terms in different schools. This can be a huge benefit and really add to your employability as you will gain 3 different teaching experiences which shows prospective employers that you can work in different learning environments.
“What about support and training?”
Here at Hoop Education we offer CPD to all of our staff to ensure you keep your skills and knowledge up to scratch. We offer courses such as Child Protection and Behaviour Management on a regular basis which makes you even more attractive to potential employers. If you are working within one of our schools on a long- term, temporary contract you will also get invited along to all their training. This is on top of being supported by your personal consultant who can offer advice and guidance throughout your time at Hoop and beyond.
“But what about progressing my career?”
Whether you’re in a permanent position in a school or working as a supply teacher, you’ll still receive the same opportunities to further your career. Working with Hoop doesn’t restrict your possibilities as we can look for and promote you for any positions that become available that will allow you to progress.
“If I choose to join Hoop, should I add supply teaching to my CV?”
Yes! Supply teaching looks excellent on your CV as it demonstrates to any potential employers that you have taught and have a vast amount of experience in different learning environments. Listing the different schools you have worked at while on supply allows any employers to match their requirements with your expertise and experience.
“Does supply teaching involve a lot of travelling?”
Not necessarily. Hoop Education have several consultants who have schools in different areas throughout South Wales and will therefore look for work in your local area. We’ll also take your means of travel into consideration before offering you any positions.
